She has stories relating to Kalispell’s old Central School and the Conrad Mansion, both now museums – and she’ll be signing her books at the Conrad Mansion Museum Friday and Saturday nights, when its annual “Ghost Tour” is in full swing.

Steven’s latest book is very localized to the Flathead: “Glacier Ghost Stories: Eerie Tales, Legends and Mysteries of Glacier National Park.”

She has also written “Haunted Montana: A Ghosthunter’s Guide to Haunted Places You Can Visit – if You Dare!” and “More Haunted Montana.”

“Really, I could write five or six more books,” Stevens says. “There is no shortage of ghost stories in Montana.”

An obvious source for some of the tales would be a ghost town, and Stevens has had her own experiences in Garnet.

“We stayed in a cabin haunted by the wife of the man who had built it,” she says. “We heard footsteps in the room, and the air turned frigid even though it was nice and warm out. The footsteps went in the direction of a chair, and when the friend who was with me went and touched the chair, it was freezing cold.”

Stevens is also fond of Butte’s ghosts, because of their variety – places haunted by everyone from madams to Chinese laborers. Places like the Rocky Knob Lodge in Conner, or Boulder Hot Springs in Boulder, are haunted by ghosts with very colorful personalities, she says.
