“Really, I could write five or six more books,” Stevens says. “There is no shortage of ghost stories in Montana.”
An obvious source for some of the tales would be a ghost town, and Stevens has had her own experiences in Garnet.
“We stayed in a cabin haunted by the wife of the man who had built it,” she says. “We heard footsteps in the room, and the air turned frigid even though it was nice and warm out. The footsteps went in the direction of a chair, and when the friend who was with me went and touched the chair, it was freezing cold.”
Stevens is also fond of Butte’s ghosts, because of their variety – places haunted by everyone from madams to Chinese laborers. Places like the Rocky Knob Lodge in Conner, or Boulder Hot Springs in Boulder, are haunted by ghosts with very colorful personalities, she says.

the best player in the NBA but I think Durant has had an MVP year. I don't know who has had a better year. And I honestly think Blake would be right behind

So to recap, Rivers would go Durant first, Griffin second and LeBron third. A coach campaigning for his own man? SHOCKING.
So forget the bias there. Let's just look to see if Rivers has a point, even slightly. LeBron's season hasn't been up to his ridiculous standard, but he has
still be terrific, averaging 27.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists with a PER of 29.36, ranking him second in the league.
Griffin is averaging 24.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists with a PER of 23.84 (10th overall). But the case to be made for Griffin isn't what he's done
with raw statistics as much as it's in how he carried the team playing without Chris Paul, who missed more than month with a shoulder injury. During that
stretch Griffin played some of the best basketball of his career as the Clippers went 12-6 without Paul, scoring 112.3 points per 100 possessions. That was
largely due to Griffin's brilliance, who assumed the role as the offensive focal point.
But that's probably the case to put him third on your ballot. Because while LeBron has slipped some this season -- primarily defensively -- he's still put
together a season worthy of winning his fifth MVP, had it not been for the ballistic season Durant put together.

Much like Google’s own Chromecast, Nest’s learning thermostat had been available for some time in the States and was making quite a name for itself in the tech media. The smart and simple way to monitor heating in your home, to keep things efficient and ultimately save you some money was catching on fast, and Google now own Nest after paying the handsome sum of $3.2 Billion. Now, Nest is available to purchase in the UK, but the question is after all this waiting should you care?
Well, if you’re a techie (which let’s face it, you are) then you will more than like already care about Nest. Reasons you should care however, range from being able to save some money on your heating bills and creating a gentler climate in your home without ramping the heating up, down or on, off all the time. In the UK, companies such as British Gas are selling similar solutions like Hive, but Nest is the original good-looking and slick learning thermostat. Over the first few days of being installed in your home, Nest learns from your heating habits and after that will smartly adjust to what it thinks you want from your heating system. Using sensors in the device, Nest can tell if nobody’s around and will cleverly turn off your heating in order to save a little cash, too.
For UK buyers, things are a little different than the US version as it comes with the Nest Heat Link which connects directly to your boiler and then relays info back to the main unit. SAN JOSE: Samsung fired back at Apple's accusations of patent theft, saying the South Korean tech giant didn't write any of the Android software on its smartphones and tablets, Google did.
"Not one of the accused features on this phone was designed, much less copied, by anyone at Samsung," Samsung attorney Peter Quinn said. "The accused features on this phone were developed independently by some of the software engineers at Google, up the road in Mountain View."
The finger-pointing took place in US District Court in San Jose, where Apple and Samsung Electronics are accusing each other of stealing ideas from each other. At stake: more than $2 billion if Samsung loses, about $6 million if Apple loses.
On opening day, Google — which is not named in the litigation — was clearly a large part of it.
The trial marks the latest round in a long-running, worldwide series of lawsuits between Apple and Samsung over mobile devices.
Quinn told jurors that Apple's gripe is with Android, a Google-developed smartphone operating system that now makes up about 70% of the global market.
Apple's lawyer Harold McElhinny had anticipated the tactic.
"Don't be misled by that," he said in his opening statement. "This case is not about Google. It is Samsung that has made the decision to copy these features, it is Samsung, not Google, that chooses to put these features into their phones, and it is Samsung that has made the decision to keep on infringing on Apple's patents."
Google declined to comment on the controversy.

The Winter Soldier gets filled to the brim with Marvel fodder—but there is breathing room throughout, and the film has a surprising amount of feeling. Chris Evans isn't a thrilling actor, but he does suggest a little lost guy caught in the strapping body. You end up feeling a bit protective of him.
A tasty paranoid strain comes out in this "education of Captain America" movie, and it echoes what Redford (far more entertaining here than he is in his civics-lesson movies) did everywhere from Three Days of the Condor to Lions for Lambs. One reason for the optimism: The government estimated Thursday that the economy grew at a 2.6 percent annual rate in the October-December quarter, up from
its previous estimate of 2.4 percent. Fueling the gain was the fastest consumer spending for any quarter in the past three years.
The numbers pointed to momentum entering 2014 from consumers, whose spending drives about 70 percent of the economy.
Analysts cautioned that the brutal winter weather has depressed spending in the January-March. And they think economic growth has likely slowed to an annual
rate of 2 percent or less this quarter. Yet that slowdown could pave the way for a solid bounce-back in the April-June quarter. Many think growth will be
fast enough the rest of the year for the economy to grow at least 3 percent for all of 2014.
"We think that once temperatures return to more normal levels, we will see a lot of pent-up demand released," said Gus Faucher, senior economist at PNC
Financial Services. "People will be buying cars and homes and making other purchases that they put off during the winter."

At first, Layne says, "we tried to win them over with some degree of Christian love, ask them in for coffee, and they would swear we had AIDS." So the church
decided to fight fire with their own brimstone. For 18 months -- until last August, when the church obtained a temporary restraining order limiting the
Phelpses' picketing activities on its property -- members of the congregation would stand outside, holding their own signs advocating love and tolerance,
next to the Phelpses' each day before services.
"I would come in shaking sometimes," says Layne. "To be told you drink anal blood at the altar of the sphincter'? They had little kids shouting outside in
the rain and the cold, Rectum Bob, smells like his name.' "

"It means that legislation will appropriately get bipartisan consideration, and that's good for all Californians," he said.

The bill was a response to a controversy over $15 million funneled to California campaigns in 2012 by a network of secretive nonprofits with ties to
conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch.
Sen. Bob Huff of Diamond Bar, leader of the Republicans in the upper house, said Monday that the measure was unnecessary but that he could support additional
disclosure requirements if they kicked in next year rather than in this election year.
But "the majority party refused so they could turn this into another cheap political stunt," Huff said.
A 2014 effective date would mean that donors "do not have time to understand that the rules of engagement have changed," he said.
The bill's author, Sen. Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana), wanted more disclosure in time for this year's elections and could bring the proposal, SB 27, back for
another vote before the session ends Aug. 31.
The lack of a supermajority also loomed in the decision to shelve a proposed constitutional amendment to overturn the state's ban on affirmative action at
colleges and universities.
The measure, by state Sen. Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina), passed the Senate in January, when it had a Democratic supermajority.
But the effort to change the Constitution, which bans consideration of race, sex or ethnicity in hiring and admissions decisions, has attracted an
increasingly vocal backlash in recent weeks. Some Chinese Americans, for example, have worried that their children may lose admission spots to other students
from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups.
If the measure is amended in the Assembly to address their concerns, it would go back to the Senate and again need a two-thirds vote to pass. But Republicans
in the upper house now have the ability to block such legislation.
Legislative leaders announced Monday that they would delay consideration of the measure and convene a task force of academics and lawmakers to study minority
representation.

How was your Valentine’s Day? I bet you went to that nice Italian place you saw in Time Out or somewhere equally overrated, which is essentially Pizza Express for people who can’t face reality.
He probably paid and then you went home to your lovely house and had some nice sex and almost certainly a little spoon afterwards, all content in your smug, coupley existence.
Well, I had no such luck.
I spent Valentine’s Day parked in my own driveway in yesterday’s knickers.
So whatever stories you might have heard of Valentine’s Day ‘disasters’ pas, I believe this will trump them ) all (And this will end up being an entirely relevant turn of phrase, if you care to read on.)
Yes, this really was the worst.
Even worse than the Valentine’s Day 2009 when I received a spice rack and a size six thong.
The thong was IN the spice rack.

Obviously, I am the type of chick who is into seasoning while cutting off the circulation to her own genitals.
We broke up.
I digress.
Back to the story in question. A last minute night out the evening before the big day had left me standing at midnight looking for anyone to talk to after my wingwoman for the evening had selfishly pulled and gone sexy AWOL.
This was an experience that made me think that perhaps those people who seem to have turned up to clubs on their own probably just have devilishly attractive friends who pull before they even have time to order a drink.
Not that they ever have to pay for their own drinks anyway, the attractive bastards.
